USED 300 TPD DESUGARIZATION PLANT. BUILT IN 1998-1999. USED JUST FOR 3 YEARS. The molasses from the low raw continuous centrifugals is collected, stored and then fed to the molasses desugarisation plant for further extraction. The MDS consists of a pretreatment plant, chromatographic separation, and product evaporation. The pretreatment system does not require molasses softening, as the juice in the factory is already treated. The molasses is filtered through 4 Sparkler pressure filters and heated with plate and frame heat exchangers. The chromatographic separation consists of two trains of resin columns. Each has 4 columns, with each column having a volume of 38 cubic meters. These separate the incoming molasses into three streams. A raffinate stream which carries the majority of the raffinose and other larger non-sugars; the product stream which contains the majority of the sugar, and the Betaine stream which contains betaine and a series of smaller molecular weight non-sugars. (8) columns are each 12'3" in diameter X 11'6" H on the straight side. The resin is Dowex 99, potassium form, 350 micron. The resin has been tested to be in fine shape.
